Health Education England is offering 100 funded places on the GP Pharmacy Technician Medicines Optimisation Training Programme delivered by Pharmacy Workforce Development South for pharmacy technicians working in primary care supporting General Practice.

Why:  The aim is to expand access to approved training programmes for pharmacy professionals contributing to primary care services in general practice. This is to ensure that they have the right post-registration training to enable confident, safe working practices and career development across sectors.

About the programme: The GP Pharmacy Technician Training Programme supports pharmacy technicians to demonstrate that they can safely deploy the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for safe practice, relevant to their role, and provides the assurance needed for safe delegation of tasks and practice autonomy.

This programme is primarily aimed at pharmacy technicians who are predominantly working within a GP setting.

The programme is approved against the UK-wide APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians.

Duration and delivery mode: This is a 14-month training programme consisting of four modules, each with a set learning duration. There is an expectation that learners will undertake additional self-directed learning. The programme is delivered online, including virtual study events facilitated by Pharmacy Workforce Development South.
