Pharmacy technician temporary register to remain open until 2024

Professional regulators asked to keep the temporary registers open for a further two years

Following a government announcement early this yearthe pharmacist and pharmacy technician temporary register was due to close on 30 September 2022,

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has now asked the GPhC and the other relevant health professional regulators to keep the temporary registers open for a further two years.

The UK Government has made this decision, which is referenced in its new ‘plan for patients’ in England, to enable health professionals on the temporary registers to continue to support the health and social care system.

The GPhC are writing to all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on the temporary register to let them know that the temporary register will now remain open for the next two years, and they can continue to practise after 30 September, if they choose to do so.

Following the UK Government’s decision, the GPhC are reviewing the policy on temporary registration arrangements and will advise on any changes to the policy in due course.
