The pathway aims to:

• Support workforce development and career progression
• Promote consistency across sectors and settings
• Support transferability of skills and experience
• Support career development conversations
• Align pharmacy technician development with wider healthcare priorities.

The pathway is organised around the four pillars of multi-professional practice:

Clinical Practice Supporting safe, effective and person-centred use of medicines.

Leadership and Management Developing leadership capability, workforce development and service improvement.

Research Supporting evidence-based practice, quality improvement, patient safety and service evaluation.

Education Supporting learning, workforce development and a positive learning culture.

Webinars

A series of webinars will be available throughout the consultation period. These sessions will provide updates on frequently asked questions and consultation data analysis.

The webinars are open to everyone and will be scheduled at a range of dates and times to accommodate as many participants as possible. Additional sessions may be added if required.

We welcome feedback from all pharmacy technicians, employers, educators, other healthcare profession, members of the public and other stakeholders.

The survey includes questions relating to:

• Overall pathway structure
• Levels of practice
• Pillars, domains and capabilities
• Career progression
• Education and development
• Future implementation

• Estimated completion time: 10-15 minutes

Feedback will help inform:

• Revisions to the final pathway
• Supporting resources and guidance
• Future implementation planning
• Continued development of pharmacy technician career development across the UK

A summary report will be published following analysis of responses.

Following closure of the consultation on 31^st December 2026, responses will be analysed and reviewed by the project team and Partner Engagement Group.

Feedback will be used to:

• Refine the pathway.
• Inform the final published version
• Identify areas requiring further development.
• Develop implementation resources and guidance.
• Inform possible future work relating Advanced and Consultant pharmacy technician Practice.

We anticipate publication of:

• Consultation report: Early 2027
• Final pathway: Spring 2027
